Serving Northeastern Nova Scotia
Your dive gear is life support. To keep you alive underwater, it must function correctly. And to keep functioning correctly, your gear needs regular servicing to prevent potential equipment failures. To keep you safe, be sure never to dive if you don’t trust your equipment to perform flawlessly.
Each piece of equipment has its own maintenance schedule, which will be outlined in your owner’s manuals. Please be sure to follow the manufacturer’s service schedule, and if you’re not sure, check with us for your equipment make and model service situation. We do recommend that you take the time to get to know your equipment by thoroughly reading all manuals, using trusted online sources, and most important asking dive professionals the right questions. Dive gear is complicated, but you can build a base of knowledge that can lead to safer dives – as well as fewer expensive repairs and replacements.
Keep in mind that not using your gear doesn’t mean it’s exempt from servicing; in fact, if your gear sits dry it can dry out essential parts, like the O-rings. Sometimes, not using your gear can make it need more service! This is one reason why inspections and maintenance are required, especially to keep your warranties valid. Most manufacturers recommend you have your dive gear inspected and/or serviced once a year or every 100 dives, whichever comes first.
We take servicing your dive gear very seriously, from visual inspections to complete overhauls.

We carry a large selection of repair and routine service parts for regulators, tank valves and buoyancy compensators. Most parts are direct from the manufacturers. We carry some generic parts from Trident Diving Equipment as well as a supply of manufacturers parts that are no longer available.

Services
We offer the following maintenance services:
Equipment Service
We are pleased to offer repair and service to Sherwood, Genesis, Aqualung, Cressi-sub and other lines of scuba equipment.
Dry Suit Repair
Drysuit owners should have their suits inspected each year. Inspection and pressure testing can find pinhole leaks before they become dive-ruining floods. All our major repairs and alterations are made by Abyss Diving Suits.
Regulator
The regulator is the MOST important piece of your kit. It must be serviced by a trained technician at least once a year. If you use it extensively, it should be serviced every six months, or every 50 dives. The SPG (submersible pressure gauge) should also be inspected annually.
Tank Servicing
We’ll do a visual inspection for corrosion, dents, pitting, and damage to the valve. Expect to have your tank serviced with a hydro-static inspection every 5 years, with a visual inspection annually. Cylinders requiring hydrostatic inspection are forwarded for servicing to Maritime Safety in Glace Bay.
Air Fills
Even if you have your own compressor, it’s not so easy to take it on a trip with you. We can do a safe, clean air fill for you. Our air fills will include a visual inspection of the tank if the VIP is outdated. Customers will require a valid diver certification card. Cylinders must have a current hydrostatic inspection and VIP.

While you do need official help with some equipment, self-maintenance of your gear is an incredibly important skill. The biggest thing to remember is RINSE! A simple dunk in cold water, every time you use your equipment, will reduce damage by salt and sun. Even if you don’t get a chance to rinse your full dive kit, try to see that your regulator gets a fresh water rinse as soon as you can, every single time you dive. This will avoid damage from salt crystals, sand particles, chlorines, acids, or mineral and alkaline deposits.
General Tips
Dry your equipment out of direct sunlight. Store the gear completely dry and enclosed.
BCD
Fill the bladder with water, rotating to rinse evenly; drain and inflate to dry, then drain. Store properly.
Computer
Soak your dive computer in a sink, but do not leave it overnight.
Wetsuits
Use organic cleaners like Mirazyme or Dettol in your wetsuit soak.
Dry Suits
The outside of your dry suit, especially the valves, need to be rinsed thoroughly.
Mask, Snorkel, & Fins
Snorkeling gear does not require regular service, but it should be rinsed after every dive and properly stored such that it’s safe from contaminants or crushing. Clean with a fresh water soak, inspect silicone strap for cuts, inspect the purge valve for nicks or damage, inspect rubber straps for wear or discoloration.
Regulator
Maintenance will depend on the type of regulator you have. In general, replace the dust cap - dry - immediately upon disconnect. Then, rinse the regulator in fresh water, letting it run through the system. Do not press the purge button. After your trip, soak the regulator system in fresh water, then rinse completely, allowing it to air-dry out of direct sunlight. Store in a cool, dry place.
Other Accessories
Soak and rinse your lights, knives, lift bags, reels, etc.
